Achieve Your Target Band with the Right IELTS Preparation
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the world’s most widely recognised English proficiency tests. It is used for higher education, professional registration, employment, immigration and migration in many countries.
At English Mentor, we help learners understand the IELTS format, develop the four language skills, improve their test-taking strategies, and prepare with focused practice and personalised feedback.
Whether you are preparing for IELTS Academic, IELTS General Training, Computer-Delivered IELTS (CD IELTS), or IELTS Writing on Paper, our training is designed around your individual target and requirements.
IELTS Academic
IELTS Academic is generally designed for candidates who plan to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level, or who need to meet English-language requirements for certain professional registration purposes.
It assesses your ability to use English in an academic environment through Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Reading and Writing components use academic-style material and require candidates to demonstrate their ability to understand information, analyse ideas, describe data and communicate effectively.
Who should consider IELTS Academic?
- Applying to a university or higher education institution
- Applying for certain professional registration requirements
- Planning to study in an English-speaking environment
- Required to demonstrate academic-level English proficiency
IELTS General Training
IELTS General Training focuses more on practical English used in everyday, workplace and social situations. The test includes Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
The Reading component includes practical texts such as notices, advertisements, workplace information and general-interest material. The Writing component includes tasks based on everyday communication as well as an essay.
Who should consider IELTS General Training?
- Planning to migrate
- Applying for certain work-related opportunities
- Seeking training or employment in an English-speaking environment
- Applying for immigration pathways that specifically require IELTS General Training
IELTS on Computer — CD IELTS
IELTS on Computer, often referred to as Computer-Delivered IELTS (CD IELTS), allows candidates to complete the Listening, Reading and Writing components using a computer at an official test centre. The Speaking test is conducted separately, according to the arrangements of the test centre.
For many candidates, the computer format offers a convenient and familiar testing experience.
Why choose IELTS on Computer?
- Complete Listening, Reading and Writing on a computer
- Familiar digital interface
- Useful tools such as on-screen text navigation and highlighting
- Convenient test scheduling at participating centres
- Results may be available sooner than some paper-test formats, depending on the test centre and location
IELTS Writing on Paper
IELTS has introduced Writing on Paper in selected locations, allowing eligible candidates taking IELTS on computer to complete the Writing component by hand, while the other applicable components remain computer-delivered.
This option can be useful for candidates who are comfortable using a computer for reading and listening but prefer handwriting their essays and written responses.
Who may prefer Writing on Paper?
- Express ideas more comfortably through handwriting
- Prefer writing essays by hand
- Find extended typing uncomfortable
- Want a computer-delivered IELTS experience while completing Writing on paper
